Are your flavours natural?

Most definitely, there are no added preservatives in our ingredients, which make our products all natural. Although this limits the shelf life to 12 months, you can be assured that with every mouthful, you are only consuming natural goodness with no nasties.

I’m new to muesli (or granola). How do I eat it?

This might sound like a silly question, though there are literally endless ways to consume toasted muesli (or granola) given its versatility.

Firstly, there is the traditional way with your desired liquid. Whether this be milk, yoghurt or juice (for bircher), you can add fruits, nuts or seeds for extra protein or sweetness. Adapt it to taste.

Bircher is a popular way to consume toasted or raw museli, though it does need to be prepared in advance. It’s very straightforward; you will need to mix the muesli with a liquid of usually juice or yogurt (we prefer natural or coconut yoghurt to keep the sweetness to a minimum). Cover your jar or container and let it sit overnight in the fridge or on the counter if you don’t want it really cold. In the morning, stir in more yogurt to achieve the desired consistency and add your favourite toppings. We recommend berries – they are low in fructose.

Toasted muesli (or granola) can also be consumed hot. In a small saucepan, mix 1/2 cup muesli with 1/2 cup water or milk. Cook over medium heat stirring frequently until boiling. Remove from heat and let cool 3-5min. Top with fresh fruit.

We will be adding recipes to this site in the near future, of which you can use our products to create slices, breads, smoothies, muffins and more.

How do I store Mabel & Joy products?

Because we have no preservatives, your Mabel & Joy products will need to be stored in a dark space (the pantry is perfect). It should not be too hot or damp. Our resealable packaging should be sealed tight, so as not to let in any air to the product, once opened.

I’m trying to cut back on sugar. How much sugar do Mabel & Joy products have?

All Mabel & Joy products have no refined sugar. If you are trying to cut back on sugar, we recommend our Bondi Blend and Mabel’s Mix, as they have less than 1 teaspoon of sugar per 60g serve. We also recommend you don’t add honey to the products, as honey contains fructose, Instead try low-fructose berries, kiwifruit or pears with their skin on.

What about Fructose Malabsorption?

It’s important to note that fructose malabsorption doesn’t mean you need to eliminate all fructose from your diet. Most people can tolerate small amounts in each sitting. It is recommended that in consultation with your health professional that foods are trialed to see if they produce symptoms.

What about dried fruit?

It is recommended that Australian adults consume 2 serves of fruit every day. Fruit is a nutritious food containing a good source of dietary fibre, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Dried fruit is also a healthy food, however because it's dried and the water content is significantly reduced, the portions you need are much smaller. For example, 4 dried apricots halves or 1 1/2 tablespoons of sultanas is equivalent to 1 medium apple. The quantity of dried fruit in Mabel & Joy’s products is not excessive and can be included as part of a balanced diet.

I’m lactose intolerant. What about me?

Lactose intolerance means that people have difficulty tolerating lactose in standard amounts. Research shows that lactose does not have to be completely eliminated from the diet for people with lactose intolerance. Small amounts in each sitting have been shown to be tolerated well. Mabel & Joy’s muesli and porridge are free of dairy and lactose containing ingredients, however despite our very best cleaning efforts, traces of dairy or milk residue may be found in some products.

What about Organic?

Organic produce is grown and processed without the use of synthetic chemicals, artificial fertilisers, food irradiation or genetically modified ingredients (GMOs). It is an innovative method of farming and production focusing on the health of the soil and utilises the best of both traditional agriculture and modern techniques to produce nutritious produce with minimal intervention.

In organic farming the whole system is linked including soil, plants, food, people and the environment.

Standards to achieve this are internationally recognised and are assured through annual audits of all certified operators by an independent third party auditor. Buying certified organic means that the produce has passed stringent requirements of a 3-year certification process, ensuring integrity for the consumer. Our supplier warehouse and distribution facility are fully certified by Australian Certified Organic (ACO).
Allergies are on my mind. What is Mabel & Joy’s advice when consuming your products?

We pack a range of food products on shared equipment including nuts, seeds, grains and cereals. This includes peanuts and gluten. While we do our best to avoid any kind of cross contamination this can occasionally occur and any of our products may contain traces of these.

Mabel & Joy also stock a small amount of products packed externally and there is the possibility that suppliers could change the formulation or substitute ingredients at any time, without notice. Customers concerned with food allergies need to be aware of this risk. Also refer to our Terms and Conditions of sale.

I’m confused. Your products say ‘Gluten-free’ though the allergen advice states that they ‘may contain traces of gluten’.

We can guarantee that any of our products which are labelled as gluten-free, are naturally gluten-free.

All of our packaging contains a warning that all of our products may contain traces of gluten. As our gluten-free products are stored and packaged in the same warehouse as products containing gluten, there is always a very slight chance that contamination may occur. Although the chance of this is unlikely and caution is taken at all times, we would rather ensure that our customers are fully aware of this so they can make the decision as to whether or not the product is safe for them or not.

I’ve not tasted your products before, though I’m intrigued. Is there a minimum order?

There is not a minimum order requirement.
How can I pay? Is it safe online?

We accept Visa, MasterCard and AMEX and PayPal. Mabel & Joy provide a safe and secure online shopping experience, because your personal details are extremely important to us. We use a range of electronic and physical security measures and devices to protect your personal data and credit card information.

What are your delivery charges?

Delivery costs depend on the weight of the order. The freight costs can be seen upon checkout. When you order online you can review your freight quote when checking out before processing payment.

Freight charges are passed on to our customers at an estimated price given to us by the freight company. Instead of loading up prices to cover freight costs, we choose a pricing structure which separates freight charges from the prices of the actual food products. We feel this is a more transparent way of operating. You can always pick up your order from one of our market stalls if you prefer to avoid freight costs, and you get to say hello at the same time!
Can I get access to free delivery?

When you spend over $30, we offer free Australian domestic delivery. Yay!

I received my order, but it is incorrect/damaged/not what I expected. What can I do?

We’re sorry you are unhappy with your delivery. Please get in touch via email within 48 hours of receiving. Once the case has been lodged and received, we will contact you ASAP.

Please provide us with as much information as possible including batch numbers, order number, date goods were received and photos which will help us organise a return/credit or refund. For further information, please refer to our Returns policy.

I’ve changed my mind and need to alter/cancel my order. How can I do this?

Please contact Mabel & Joy via email immediately if you need to change or cancel your order. Please be advised that some orders are shipped very soon after placement, and it may not always be possible to cancel or make changes. As we are a company concerned about the environment and minimal wastage, once orders have been packed, you may incur a fee, at the discretion of Mabel & Joy.
