Why Avocados are really hard core

Gotta love a good avo pun!

Avocados have had a bad rap for awhile now. First it was how fat they are and then it was either the smashed avo on toast or a house - you can't have both!

Leaving that aside for the moment, avocados are so versatile and you can make so many things with them. They can be:

🥑 added raw to toast (just don't tell bank) - that squeeze of lemon and OMG!

🥑 added to make a creamy salad dressing

🥑 did someone say guacamole?

🥑 grilled

🥑 baked with an egg in them (yes you heard this right)

🥑 made into a soup (hot or cold)

Avocados impart a creamy texture to baked goods and smoothies. They don't really add much flavour just a smooth and lovely creaminess.

There are over 500 different varieties of avocados and they are packed full of vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin K, Folate, Vitamin C, Potassium, Vitamin B and Vitamin E. They don't contain any cholesterol or sodium, are low in carbs and are low in saturated fat - the fats that got them such a bad rap. Adding avocados to a morning smoothie will fill you up and keep you satisfied for longer. This extra bulk can help prevent you from overindulging whilst also keeping your digestion regular.

With everything though, you've got to balance the good with the bad. Yes avocados contain fat but if you balance them with other good ingredients and don't overindulge (It really is hard to eat too many avos in one go!) then research states that all the good contained within balances the amount of fats. That and we need a certain amount of fats in our foods anyway.

If you've avoided avocados because of their fat content, give them a go. If you had no idea you could add them to a smoothie, I'd highly recommend. If you already love your avo, then keep up that excellent work!
